{"id":77,"date":"2006-11-09T12:24:09","date_gmt":"2006-11-09T17:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/clyde\/good-news-and-not-so-good-news\/"},"modified":"2006-11-30T12:54:47","modified_gmt":"2006-11-30T17:54:47","slug":"good-news-and-not-so-good-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/clyde\/good-news-and-not-so-good-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Good news &#8230; and not so good news &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Good news!\u00c2\u00a0 Clyde made it through his operation yesterday (Nov 8th) with flying colors!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyde was probably a little suspicious yesterday morning when we didn&#8217;t feed him (as instructed by the vet).\u00c2\u00a0 But, we tried to make him feel better with some loving hugs and kisses before taking him on his journey.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s not too happy in this photo, but we would like to think he understood my care and concern.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image73\" alt=\"Clyde snuggling with Dad\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/00-operation-day-daddy-goodbye.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And, of course, Sue had to let him know how much she loved him &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image74\" alt=\"Operation day ... Clyde with Mom\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/00-operation-day-mommy-goodbye.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, off we went.\u00c2\u00a0 Clyde had an early morning drop off.\u00c2\u00a0 His schedule for the morning included routine blood work and a routine chest x-ray to see if he could handle the surgery.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>The good news:<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 The tests showed that Clyde could handle the surgery.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The not-so-good news:<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0 The x-ray showed a &#8220;mass&#8221; in his lungs.\u00c2\u00a0 It appears the cancer may have already spread from his foot.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Immediately, thoughts of our beloved white cat, Mohawk, came to mind.\u00c2\u00a0 Five years ago (Fall of 2001) we discovered Mohawk had cancer of a similar nature, which ultimately led to his passing in January 2002.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For Clyde, Sue and I decided to forgo any operative work to find out more about the lung mass.\u00c2\u00a0 Instead, we decided we should focus just on the toe for now.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clyde&#8217;s operation took place between Noon and 2pm, and I picked him up on the way home from work.\u00c2\u00a0 He was groggy, but he recognized me and sniffed my hand.\u00c2\u00a0 His foot was wrapped with a pretty blue bandage.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At pickup, Dr. Kelly gave me explicit instructions to keep Clyde from going up or down the stairs in our home &#8230; at least for the first few days post-op.\u00c2\u00a0 This was going to be tough, considering Clyde&#8217;s litterbox is in the basement!\u00c2\u00a0 Plus, we had to continue his daily doses of Clavamox (antibiotic) and add a painkiller called MetaCam.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Once home, I let Clyde out of the carrier &#8230; and he immediately took off limping and stumbling into the dining room, kitchen, family room trying to shake the bandage off.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image76\" alt=\"Post Op.  Clyde licking leg.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2006\/11\/02-post-op-blue-bandage-2.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Finally, he took off down the stairs into the basement to use the litterbox!\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Eh, when you gotta go, you gotta go!<\/p>\n<p>Clyde ate some food, which was a good sign that he was still in somewhat good spirits.\u00c2\u00a0 After dinner, we gave him his medication and he eventually settled down on Sue&#8217;s lap to catch some much-needed sleep after a long, trying day.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image75\" alt=\"Post Op.
