{"id":128,"date":"2007-03-11T20:43:57","date_gmt":"2007-03-12T01:43:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/davids-world\/flame-grilled-and-flushed-away\/"},"modified":"2007-03-22T10:51:42","modified_gmt":"2007-03-22T15:51:42","slug":"flame-grilled-and-flushed-away","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/davids-world\/flame-grilled-and-flushed-away\/","title":{"rendered":"Flame Grilled and Flushed Away!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a tendancy to leave things in my clothes pockets at the end of the day.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve always thought I make a concerted effort to empty the pockets, but Sue disagrees.\u00c2\u00a0 See, in our division of household duties, Sue does all the laundry.\u00c2\u00a0 She has often come across gum wrappers, wads of paper,\u00c2\u00a0loose change, electronic resistors (!), and\u00c2\u00a0an occasional pen in my pockets as she prepares the wash.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She has admonished me several times to do a better job emptying my pockets, and I always promise to do better.\u00c2\u00a0 In fact, we had such a conversation last week on this very topic.\u00c2\u00a0 She watched me toss my clothes into the hamper without checking the pockets.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She said, &#8220;You didn&#8217;t check the pockets!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To which I replied, &#8220;I didn&#8217;t need to check because I didn&#8217;t put anything in my pockets today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You check regardless!\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe you forgot you put something in your pockets.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I promised to do better, and she said &#8220;the next thing I find I&#8217;m keeping.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sooooooo &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday (Saturday), I came home from the gym to find the following note on my dresser:<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image127\" alt=\"Tie Tack Ransom Note\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/03\/ransom-note.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was confused at first, so I asked Sue &#8220;what&#8217;s this?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To which she replied, &#8220;looks like a ransom note to me!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, I had left one of my tie pins in one of my shirt pockets.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a gold-plated pin with the letter &#8220;D&#8221; on it.\u00c2\u00a0 (D for David).\u00c2\u00a0 Hence, the reference in the note to &#8220;If you want to see your D tie pin again &#8230;&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I met\u00c2\u00a0Sue in the kitchen and explained that I didn&#8217;t have $25,000 to give her for the pin.\u00c2\u00a0 (And &#8230; it&#8217;s really not worth that much to me!\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s gold-<em><strong>plated<\/strong><\/em> not solid gold.\u00c2\u00a0 Actually, it&#8217;s probably BRASS.)\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We negotiated an alternative\u00c2\u00a0settlement.\u00c2\u00a0 I would buy her dinner in exchange for the tie pin.\u00c2\u00a0 So, we went out to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant, La Fiesta, in Richmond Heights &#8230;
