{"id":122,"date":"2007-02-27T10:48:29","date_gmt":"2007-02-27T15:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/clyde\/the-silence-is-deafening\/"},"modified":"2007-03-22T10:50:43","modified_gmt":"2007-03-22T15:50:43","slug":"the-silence-is-deafening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/clyde\/the-silence-is-deafening\/","title":{"rendered":"The Silence is Deafening &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s tough coming home to an empty and quiet house.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One of the things we miss most about Clyde is his constant &#8220;meows&#8221; for attention.\u00c2\u00a0 For almost 15 years, he would wake us up in the morning by meandering into our bedroom with a chirpy &#8220;meow&#8221; as if to say <em>&#8220;Okay you two, time to get up and feed me!&#8221;<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"right\" id=\"image120\" alt=\"Clyde at 3 months\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/littleclyde3.jpg\" \/>He would chirp and chirp and meow and meow and lead me (David) into the kitchen to be fed for breakfast.\u00c2\u00a0 Once he was fed &#8230; he was off to take a nap.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If either or both of us were home around 11:00 am, Clyde&#8217;s internal feeding clock would go off for one of his favorite delicacies:\u00c2\u00a0chicken or turkey Gerber&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0baby food.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Meow! Meow! Meow!&#8221; <\/em>he would chirp until we spoon fed him half the jar.\u00c2\u00a0 Then he was off to take a nap.<\/p>\n<p>If Sue was home with Clyde, she could release twist the cap of a 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola, and after the &#8220;sssssss&#8221; of the pressure release, Clyde would suddenly appear, chirping for some tuna from Sue&#8217;s lunch.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After a long day at work, we&#8217;d come home to be greeted by Clyde.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Meow!\u00c2\u00a0 Meow!\u00c2\u00a0 Meow!&#8221; he would chirp as he strolled out from under the dining room table to greet us.\u00c2\u00a0 <em>&#8220;Hooray, you&#8217;re home!\u00c2\u00a0 Time to feed me again!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>He would then proceed to carry on at great length following us around the house, as if to tell us all about the fabulous day\u00c2\u00a0he had sleeping in various rooms, watching birds and squirrels through the patio door, sniffing bugs and eating cat crunchies.\u00c2\u00a0 Eventually, we would go through his little feeding routine, and then off he would go for another nap.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image123\" alt=\"Clyde in 1993\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/inbluebasket2.jpg\" \/><br \/>\n<font size=\"1\">Clyde in 1993<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Now that Clyde&#8217;s gone, the\u00c2\u00a0silence is deafening.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now, only my alarm clock jars us out of bed.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s no one to greet us at the bottom of the stairs and we stroll to the kitchen unassisted.\u00c2\u00a0 11:00 am comes and goes in silence.\u00c2\u00a0 We eat with only our own voices to fill the air.\u00c2\u00a0 We come home to an empty and quiet house.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sue has found it tough to be home alone on Sunday without Clyde around to help her eat lunch and to listen to my radio show.\u00c2\u00a0 She also misses Clyde sitting outside our home office when Sue works from home.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re very sad, and we miss our little friend.\u00c2\u00a0 We miss his presence, knowing he was always somewhere in the house, often just nearby keeping us company from a distance.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But, most of all, we miss all his wonderfully chirpy and happy meows that broke the silence for almost 15 years.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image121\" alt=\"Clyde at 15 years\" src=\"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/0362-clydefloorshot1.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s tough coming home to an empty and quiet house.\u00c2\u00a0 One of the things we miss most about Clyde is his constant &#8220;meows&#8221; for attention.\u00c2\u00a0 For almost 15 years, he would wake us up in the morning by meandering into our bedroom with a chirpy &#8220;meow&#8221; as if to say &#8220;Okay you two, time to [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-clyde"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/122","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=122"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/122\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=122"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=122"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.cabanonline.com\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=122"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
